“Syrians are filming their own death” – so begins Rabih Mroué’s lecture performance, in which he shows images of people caught up in the Syrian civil war capturing their own murder on camera. Mroué examines these visual documents, which were shared on social media during the first year of the Syrian revolution, in order to look at the use of social media in the context of the Syrian uprisings and consider the relationship between this act of photographic documentation and death, as well as how we view and record such videos today. Alongside this performance, The Pixelated Revolution also features a number of Mroué’s installations and video works.
